Get Get Retro – Get The Style When you Want to go Retro
Effie’s Heart wants to thank Cath from Get Go Retro for her wonderful online review of our line:
Effie’s Heart favors flirty dresses, vintage trousers and gorgeous tops. With that said, we at Get Go Retro are so excited about this wonderful vintage inspired line of clothing, that we asked Kimo if we could offer her clothing in our boutique.
I love Kimo’s incorporation of some of the Old Hollywood glamour pieces. For instance, the “Garbo Pants.” Garbo’s personal style consisted of men’s clothes. This included tailored shirts, silk ties and pajama pants. So it’s fabulous to see her style reflected in the trousers.

My Shopping Connection
Effie’s Heart is a fabulous indie fashion and accessories line with a fun and flirty vintage style.
I fell in love with the Harvest Tote with Vases the minute I laid eyes on it. The large, carry-all style weekender is a soft black cotton canvas bag with cream-colored reverse stitching and vintage-style buttons.
The vases artwork is by Rachel Delgado and Paul Gallo, and the interior of the bag is lined in a coordinating cream and black print.
The Harvest Tote is roomy and spacious without looking the part – it has pockets inside and out for quick access to your essentials (cell, keys and iPod).
The bag is also available in Dove and Crimson, and there’s another great design with motorcycles, if that’s more to your taste. And did I mention it’s machine washable?
I simply love the feminine simplicity and functionality of the Harvest Tote, and it’s quickly becoming one of my favorite everyday bags.
Effie’s Heart was kind enough to send along some of their other fabulous accessories for us to try, as well. The Etta Snood and Simone Scarf in Berry look great together and are the perfect way to add a little flair to your average winter attire.
Be sure to stay tuned for their Spring/Summer 2010 collections – they promise to be amazing!
The Glam is Back…The 1940's
The 1940’s era will always be remembered as a time of classic fashion. It is enjoying a recent comeback now because of the depressed economy. Similar to the 40’s film star, glamour is the opposite reaction to our current gloomy forecasts. For those who are looking for a way to bring glam back into their lives without breaking the bank, check out the rosette bandeau.
The 1940’s was also a time where women were encouraged to work outside their homes. These new roles (women working in machine factories) that were previously only acceptable for men to have, demanded that fashion also make a strong change. As women soon found out, labor intensive jobs required stronger and more comfortable clothing in order to “get the job done.” Wash and wear pants gave woman a way out of their house dresses. Today’s women enjoy pants without a second thought but the Bicycle pants gives them options (you can cinch the hem up) for work or play.
Besides the ushering in of the new pant era, the 1940’s also introduced the pronouncement of shoulders. Strong shoulders that were feminine (no football players here) were the ultimate accessory. Joan Crawford was said to have started this fashion craze because of her naturally broad shoulders. Her costume designers purposely exaggerated her shoulders to disguise her full-sized upper torso. To accentuate today’s feminine torso, enjoy the faux-fur Harlow Jacket.
Effie’s Heart has always taken its cues from female style icons of the past and blended vintage details with today’s wearable and easy to care for fabrics. For example, Lana Turner influenced the Lanna Dress with her curvaceous figure. Effie’s Heart is proud to design beautiful, flirty and sexy clothing for today’s real women. Another style icon we adore is Katherine Hepburn for her trendsetting character and the strong female roles she played. The Katherine Blouse, like its namesake, is for the modern woman with an unstoppable attitude.
Have Yourself a Very Versatile Wardrobe
The most popular items this holiday season at Effie’s Heart are versatile pieces that can be re-worn later in the year. These staple items below can be transformed into entirely different looks with the addition of a jacket, tights or jewelry.
For celebrating Christmas with your in-laws the Sweetheart dress is perfect. This flattering classic has just the right balance of feminine charm mixed with stretch knit comfort.
The Martini dress is the idea for an office party. The unique chandelier printed fabric will be a definite conversation piece.
For a Holiday night out with your sweetheart I recommend the Lanna dress paired with the faux fur Harlow Jacket. You will be the enviable arm candy in this low-lux outfit.
Bella Hoodie Worn, Loved & Reviewed
We want to thank Mallory from MissMalaProp.com for taking the time to try Effie’s Heart.
The pieces are vintage inspired with a touch of feminine sophistication, but they’re definitely for the modern girl. Crafted in sleek silhouettes out of comfy materials like pima cotton, spandex and silk, these are pieces that can add that extra something-something to your everyday wear.
The piece I ended up picking, the Bella Hoodie, is the perfect example of this. Ever since it arrived in the mail the other day, I just don’t want to take it off. It’s super comfy, but it has these great details like these poufy Victorian inspired sleeves and pocket button detail, and I love that it’s a longer tunic length than a normal hoodie.
