The term “art deco” was named after a 1925 exhibition in Paris, celebrating the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes (International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts).  Beginning in Paris in the 1920′s, art deco’s geometric style influenced all areas of design, from architecture and interior design to fashion and jewelry, as well as the visual arts.Â

Wandering Heart: Daydreams of Route 66

Main Street of America. The Mother Road. Route 66, once the path of westward migration in the 1930′s is now a nostalgic journey of American kitsch and roadside culture.

SXSW 2012 • SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST • AUSTIN, TX
Last month we packed up our trunks and headed to Austin for some southern hospitality, yummy food, great music & fabulous fashion at SXSW – Style X, the official fashion discovery showcase of SXSW.
Thank you all for stopping by the booth and giving us such a warm welcome! Your favorite Effie’s Heart pieces from the show included the Jackie dress and the Dolce Vita dress in our new spring print, perfect for dancing away the warm summer nights. Another garment immediately snapped up was the Swing Shrug – a must have cover up for day or night, transforming your basic tank into a fashion statement.

Effie Says: Â Tips for (Practically) Wrinkle-Free Packing
Here are some tricks to packing up your favorite pieces…Â
♥ Lighten Up! We know, we know, you want to cram it all into that teeny carry-on and bypass the dreaded checked-baggage fees and lost luggage anxiety. Stuffing it all in will just leave you crying when you get there, so you’ve got some tough decisions to make. Go for easy items like dresses, neutral bottoms, leggings and lots of tops. Why not treat yourself to a new outfit to make your trip even more special?
Place shoes and heavy items toward the bottom of the bag (when upright) to avoid crushing clothing. Heels or more delicate footgear can be placed gingerly around the perimeter of the suitcase (in plastic bags of course).
♥ Plastic Makes Perfect? Yes, there is a reason to save those awful dry-cleaner bags. Plastic between garments reduces friction and therefore wrinkles. One outfit per bag. Throw in some ziplocs for shoes or other things you don’t want touching your clothes. And a few extra for food or restaurant leftovers. And one more large size for laundry.
♥ Holy Roller! Rolling works well for jeans (or ‘denim trousers’ as we like to call them) and t-shirts. For jeans, fold length-wise and roll up from the hem. For t-shirts, lay face-down, fold back the sleeves and roll up. Reduces wrinkles and saves space.
♥ Know When to Fold It: If you have the luxury of a bigger suitcase (and preferably someone to carry it for you) the best option is to lay items flat, sleeves folded, with a sheet of tissue paper in between each.
To save space, items like sweaters and knit pieces can be best preserved in a square fold. Put the garment face-down, fold in at the sleeves and smooth away wrinkles. Fold about a third of the bottom upward and then the top third down. There! Just like at the store!
♥ Did We Mention the Unmentionables? Keep delicate lingerie safe in light mesh laundry bags. Satin-type lingerie bags are perfect for snaggy items like stockings and other silky things.
Socks can lay flat or be rolled and squeezed into nooks and crannies. We like to roll up our socks and put them in places that help keep the rounded shape of certain unmentionables. Really, is anyone out there worried about wrinkly socks?
♥ Tissue Paper Magic: A simple piece of plain tissue paper works wonders when placed in between garments, especially thin sweaters and other wrinkle-prone materials.
♥ Out of the Bag: Your bag may not be treated kindly on its journey. As soon as you arrive at your destination, remove and hang your clothes for best chances of wrinkle-free survival.
